Professional Development Course for Teachers Teaching Economics (3 Months)
The Institute for Development and Communication (IDC), Chandigarh, is a premier autonomous research organization. It is a recognized Research Centre of Panjab University, Chandigarh, for Ph. D in Economics, Political Science, Sociology, and other social science disciplines. In view of the challenges posed by the process of globalization, the need is being felt to generate new knowledge and disseminate it. To start with, we have decided to focus on the teaching of the discipline of economics.
Economics as a discipline has been evolving in response to the challenges posed by the changing nature of globalization, climate and environment transformation, technological revolution, and experiments in public policy and governance. The knowledge to be generated must capture the impact of these changes on the livelihood and quality of life of people and also develop the capacity of the students to engage in the new globalized world.
This necessitates upgrading teachers’/researchers’ skill sets, knowledge, and awareness of the new developments in economics. Therefore, the Advanced Course for Teaching Economics has been conceptualized by the Institute for Development and Communication (IDC) with the thrust to :
- • Update the knowledge of teachers teaching economics to senior secondary, undergraduate and post-graduate students.
- • Familiarize them with new developments in economics, tools, and methods.
- • Improve pedagogical techniques and integrate technology in teaching.
- • Explore new research areas and interdisciplinary approaches.
- • Encourage collaborative learning and networking among economics educators.
The focus of this course would be to empower the teachers to disseminate new concepts and ideas to make students career-ready in government (Public Policy Expert, Research Officer, and Statistician), academia (Researcher, Professor) and private sectors (Financial Analyst, Business Consultant, Data Analyst, etc.).
This course has been designed for teachers teaching economics in 10+2 schools, undergraduate and post-graduate colleges in the state of Haryana. I shall be grateful if you may issue appropriate instructions to the concerned for nominating teachers for the same. The duration of the course shall be three months (60 participants per batch), and it will be taught in Hybrid (Online and Offline) mode, preferably in the afternoon.
